Belinka dates back to 1948. Their first plant in Podgorica near Šentjakob in Slovene produced hydrogen peroxide. This versatile bleaching agent was also responsible for the company name – BELINKA (bel means white in Slovene).
The raw material for the manufacture of washing powders was increasingly in demand as the 1950's and 60's saw the mass production of washing machines and an increased demand for washing powders. Belinka grew each year and expanded to foreign markets. The original part of Belinka, that still produces peroxide compounds, was eventually named Belinka Perkemija.
In the 60’s the successful expansion of Belinka continued in other areas. In addition to basic chemical compounds for industry, Belinka began producing and marketing widely used wood coatings. This led to successful licence cooperation with the leading manufacturer of wood coatings at that time, the Danish company Sadolin. In the early 80's, Belinka started to produce its own wood coatings which today, especially in the markets of former Yugoslavia, represent superior quality.
After acquisitions in the 90's (Belinka Kemostik, Belinka Kemična Tovarna Moste) the Belinka Group was formed and united under the parent company, Belinka Holdings. In the new millennium the group expanded by purchasing the Croatian company Metakem, and the Serbian company Duga.
The Belinka Group started to merge with the chemical organisation, the Helios Group, in 2007. In the last couple of years the Helios Group has managed the unification of Slovene chemical companies that deal with paints, varnishes, glues, and other products for home and construction. Thus, since the autumn of 2007, the companies Belinka Perkemija, Belinka Belles, and Belinka Kemostik have been new members of the Helios Group.
